Achieving excellent health by following naturopathic lifestyle principles is a quest I have pursued for most of my adult life as I feel that without excellent health – we have nothing. I believe the same applies to our dogs – all dogs should be able to experience optimum health and high vital energy and have long and happy lives and avoid pain and suffering.
Yet in our modern world, recent statistics show a very different story:
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, almost half of all dogs over 10yo are now getting cancer and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, reports that 60 percent of all dogs over the age of 6 will get cancer during their lifetime. I find these statistics to be heart breaking and tragic and I strongly believe that these numbers could be drastically reduced by preventative measures and following a more natural lifestyle and diet.
Many dogs will develop cancer, heart disease, diabetes, auto-immune disorders and other serious health disorders that could have been prevented. My belief is that when the body has the right tools – it will heal itself from cancer and other serious diseases or, better still, prevent these diseases from developing in the first place. These ‘tools’ include the correct diet, the right nutrient therapies, herbal medicines, adequate sunlight, clean water, regular exercise, low stress, and the avoidance of commonly-used toxic substances - and the vast number of dogs I’ve helped around the world are great examples of this.
